Unlicensed Sewer Work Carries Stiff Fines in Fort Worth
A surefire way to increase the cost of sewer replacement is to use unlicensed labor. There’s a good reason: we all tie into the city sewer system. When your neighbor does something improper, it hurts everyone’s wastewater drainage system.
The City of Fort Worth fines homeowners up to $2,000 per day for unlicensed sewer work. The Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) adds fines of up to $5,000 per day.
These charges do not include mandatory remediation costs, added code compliance penalties and any public appearances or inspection fees associated with the violation.

Full Sewer Line Replacement
Scope of Replacement: 50+ feet
Excavation is necessary to fully replace a failed residential sewer system and install a new Schedule 40 PVC main line. Hire a licensed plumber that utilizes damage-free sewer camera equipment to map a targeted tunnel- this avoids property damage and restoration costs.
Most total sewer replacements in Fort Worth are caused by deprecated original cast iron and clay tile systems in mature housing stock. In the last 12 months, all but a handful of Mother’s full sewer repipe jobs in Fort Worth involved cast iron systems over 50 years old.
General Cost Range: $14,550-$47,100. Costs trend higher when tunnels cannot follow a direct path due to existing hardscaping, inground pools and slab-on-grade foundations.
Rerouting Your Sewer Line
Scope of Replacement: Variable length- use case depends on proximity to landscaping, foundation or outdoor structures
An excellent option for extensive residential sewer main damage with the foundation or outdoor living structures in the surrounding area. Rerouting avoids expensive destruction of patios and pergolas, and involves no cutting into your slab.
Instead, a pathway for a net new sewer line is mapped using non-invasive detection equipment. The new pipe is installed on this path to avoid existing structures and foundations completely. While tunneling is involved, you avoid expensive property remediation.
Attic reroutes are the ideal scenario- it’s generally not a feasible option for Fort Worth homes without requisite attic space or those with cathedral ceilings.

CIPP Sewer Lining
CIPP lining is great for local homeowners with an two-way exterior sewer cleanout- easy access, virtually no damage. Sewer lining excels in targeted projects like hairline cracks, root intrusions and minor PVC breaks.
The process involves an epoxy-soaked resin tube that’s pulled through your affected pipe, then inflated and cured to the inside walls with heat or UV. The cracks and leaks are sealed, with a slight reduction to the pipe’s diameter.
General Cost Range: $130-218 per linear foot for sewer applications. $6,500-$10,925 for 50 linear feet of pipe restoration.

Sewer Permit and Inspection Costs in Fort Worth
Fort Worth Sewer Service Permits
Homeowners cannot pull their own sewer plumbing permits from the City of Fort Worth Development Services. A licensed plumber must be hired.
As of publication, the potential price range of your permits ranges from $116.87 to $482.49. The lower figure represents a replacement project that only affects your yard and property. Digging on the sidewalk or parkway increases costs to $369.99, while any traffic closures expand the cost to $482.49.
Unlike Dallas, there is no additional excavation fee if the digging is contained to your property.

When to Schedule Sewer Inspections in Fort Worth
There is no pre-dig inspection required by the city’s Development Services. You must call 811 at least 48 hours prior to digging. Local utility companies will come out to paint and flag underground gas, electric, and water lines
You cannot legally backfill over the new sewer pipe without a City of Fort Worth inspection. A city inspector must physically stand over the trench and verify the work was properly completed. Your plumber should schedule this inspection.
The inspection cost is built into your city permit fee.
