A quality sewer repair quote is detailed- material selection, repair method and equipment used. It’s packed with assurances- proof of license, insurance, workers’ compensation and your sewer repair warranty. And it’s clear- is there a camera inspection? Who’s pulling the permits and scheduling city inspections?
Let’s talk about what a fair and complete DFW sewer repair quote looks like, and the 8 things you need to check before you agree to plumbing service.

Did You Get a Fair Sewer Repair Quote in DFW?
Your plumber just completed their review of your damaged sewer line. They walked you through the issue, pointed out their recommended repair option, and presented their final bid. Now, you want to do your homework before you sign.
Mother’s licensed sewer specialists quoted over 250 DFW sewer repair jobs in 2025-2026, and reviewed 443 sewer service bids from local plumbing competitors. We used this information to build this guide.
Now, let’s get into the eight details you must see to approve a local sewer service quote.
1. Are You Getting a Camera Inspection, or Just a Phone Estimate?

A sewer line camera inspection must be included in your quote for sewer repairs- especially in the DFW Metroplex. If a plumber prices your job without one, they’re bidding blind.
Modern HD camera technology provides visual proof of your sewer problem. Your plumber assesses your sewer line’s age and materials, stability, and what caused the damage in the first place. It allows them to build a realistic scope of work and price the job correctly.
Just as important: you can request to see the footage. No taking a plumber’s word for it. An ethical plumber shows you what they see and walks you through the ideal next steps of your repair process.
What Your Camera Inspection Should Actually Show
As you review your inspection footage with your licensed plumber, request to see these 4 things and ask follow-up questions:
- The precise location of your pipe leak, separation or collapse. How widespread or localized is the damage?
- The current condition of the pipe around your damaged section. What is the scope of repairs? Are there any other potential problem areas?
- Your existing sewer pipe materials. Are you replacing modern Schedule 40 PVC or older cast iron, clay tile or Orangeburg pipes?
- The precise cause of your sewer issue. Was the damage caused by deprecated pipe materials? A tree root intrusion? A massive sewer blockage?
Red Flag: A Repair Price With No Diagnosis
A sewer line repair estimate without a sewer camera inspection is a massive red flag.
“If you’re getting quoted over the phone without visual proof of your sewer damage, hang up,” says our Responsible Master Plumber Steven Smith (RMP-43457).
There’s no way for a licensed plumber to properly assess your sewer line’s age, stability or what caused your damage without a thorough inspection of the pipe. Without the footage, their bid is a stab in the dark.
2. Is the Exact Sewer Repair Method Named in Writing?

Your quote should name the specific repair method to be used to fix your damaged pipe section.
Look for one of these sewer repair service options:
- Sewer spot repair
- Partial sewer line replacement
- Full sewer line replacement
- Attic reroute
- Trenchless pipe bursting
- CIPP lining
If a single service decision isn’t clearly stated, it can cause massive fluctuations in the actual repair price moving forward. Different services require different amounts of excavation, labor and materials- know which one your plumber is utilizing before signing off.
A vague quote leaves the door open for a company to switch to a cheaper (or more expensive) method after you've already signed. Getting the method in writing locks in what you're actually paying for.
You can cross-reference what these services should cost in our updated DFW price guide.
3. What Pipe Material is Being Used?

Your new sewer pipe section needs to last decades. Make sure your quote explicitly lists the pipe materials being used. You’ll avoid a shady plumber switching to cheap products and pocketing the extra cash.
Schedule 40 PVC and HDPE (high-density polyethylene) are the industry gold standard for modern sewer pipe materials.
Mother’s sewer technicians utilize Schedule 40 PVC in DFW repair projects for its rigidity and puncture resistance. It performs well in our local black gumbo clay soil, and the acids in your wastewater won’t corrode its internal pipe walls.
“Make sure your sewer pipe material is rated to last 50+ years from installation,” Steven states. “This is the kind of thing you only want to deal with once in a lifetime.”
4. Who’s Pulling the Permits and Scheduling City Inspections?
You’re hiring a plumbing company to handle everything for you. You’ve got work, kids, a packed schedule- you can’t waste half a day in City Hall.
“The plumber should be doing all that,” Steven says.
Mother Modern Plumbing handles all that legwork for you. We pull the permits. We schedule all necessary inspections with your city- whether it’s Fort Worth City Hall, the Arlington Municipal Building or the Plano Municipal Center.
5. What Happens If They Find More Damage Mid-Repair?
Newly discovered damage to your sewer line is going to change your estimate. Any shifts in project scope or labor hours must be approved by you.
Work should stop immediately. You should be notified. The unforeseen damage should be documented with visual proof and presented to you.
You must be in control of the decision to continue. No work should be completed unless it is pre-approved. Don’t accept any sewer repair quote that leaves wiggle room for the contractor to do things without your knowledge.
“We assume everything’s being done in your best interest,” Steven explains. “But it’s your home and it’s your money. So the decision needs to come from you first.”
6. Do You See Proof of License, Insurance and Workers’ Comp?

If your plumber doesn’t provide all of these items, do not sign anything. Full stop.
A plumber’s license isn’t just a vote of confidence- it’s mandatory to perform sewer repair work in every DFW municipality. You’ll pay out the nose in fines and fees for unlicensed contractor practice on your property:
- Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE): up to $5,000 per day
- City of Dallas: $500 per incident + $100/hour investigative fee
- City of Fort Worth: Up to $2,000 per day
- City of Plano: Up to $1,000 per violation per day
Plus, the city will force you to stop work, pull a proper permit, and hire a licensed plumber to redo the work up to code.
Ask your contractor to provide their active Certificate of Insurance (COI) with their bid. Check the expiration date, and make sure the policy is at least $300,000.
If there’s no concrete evidence your contractor has up-to-date insurance and workers’ compensation, do not work with them until it’s furnished and proven.
Checking a Texas Plumbing License in Under a Minute
Use the TSBPE’s public search portal to check the status and veracity of your contractor’s Texas state plumbing license. It takes under a minute and there’s no sign-up required.
Your DFW plumbing company must have a Responsible Master Plumber (RMP) on staff. Our Responsible Master Plumber is Steven Smith (RMP-43457).
Why Their Insurance Is Your Liability Too
First and foremost: uninsured plumbers can’t legally pull permits in Dallas or Fort Worth. So they’ll likely be working without a permit- which exposes you to all the fines listed above.
If an uninsured plumber makes a mistake on your property that causes damage, your homeowners insurance policy will almost certainly deny your claim.
If their uninsured mistake causes damage to your neighbor’s property (or you live in a zero-lot-line neighborhood in North Dallas), you become legally and financially liable.
If a plumber working for an uninsured company gets injured on your residential property during repairs, they can sue you under Texas premises liability laws.
(Note: We’re not lawyers. We’re just simple country plumbers. If something’s become inaccurate in this section over time, we’ll fix it ASAP.)
Workers’ Comp Isn’t Mandatory In Texas. We Carry It Anyway
Texas is one of the few states that doesn’t mandate licensed plumbing companies to carry workers’ compensation.
Mother Modern Plumbing holds active workers’ comp. We care about our plumbers, and we care about you. You’re signing on for a proficient sewer repair, not a liability nightmare.
7. How Long is the Warranty, and Does It Transfer?
If your first thought was, “Wait- my sewer repair quote doesn’t include a warranty!”, then you shouldn’t accept that proposal.
Mother offers two tiers of sewer line repair warranties depending on the scope of work:
- 6 year warranty on sewer repair services, including parts and labor
- 20 year warranty on full sewer line replacement, including parts and labor
We stand behind our work. Be sure any quote you accept for residential sewer service shows equal confidence and delivers similar peace of mind.
Will Your Sewer Repair Warranty Outlast Your Plumber?
“Think of it this way,” Steven says. “A lifetime warranty is no good if the company is out of business next year.”
Approach your quoted sewer repair warranty with a similar mindset. Review your potential plumber. Background check their staff. Check for transparent, ethical business practices.
We’re here for the long haul. Any plumber you hire should be, too.
Transferable Warranties and Selling Your Home
Your sewer repair warranty should be fully transferable to new owners. If you sell your home, the protection continues into their ownership.
For prospective buyers, the fear of walking into a home with “buried pipe damage” is real. An active warranty on the main sewer line eases negotiations.
8. Did You Get a Fair Price? Compare It to Other DFW Quotes

The 7 things you checked led you to this point. You should know the targeted sewer repair method, the materials being used, permitting and inspection costs, and the overall scope of work and labor hours.
While every yard is different, here are the standard price ranges for DFW sewer line repair services as of 2026*:
*We priced trenchless sewer repair methods by linear foot in this table. Unlike comparing spot repairs to partial replacement, trenchless options can span anywhere from a few feet to 100+ feet.
The baseline quotes above assume standard sewer repair conditions. If your plumber’s quote is significantly higher, look for variables. Does your quote include tunneling under a concrete slab? Are they breaking up a driveway? Are you dealing with Dallas clay soil or legacy cast-iron pipes?
To cross-reference specific labor and material variables in your quote, check our local price guide for sewer service. If it’s significantly higher or lower than the average for your particular sewer repair service description, ask questions.
Red Flags a Price Is Too Good to Be True
Got that one DFW sewer repair bid that seems a little too amazing? We don’t want to be cynical about our competitors- maybe you’re getting a great deal!
But just in case, here are 5 local red flags we see all the time in these “discount quotes”:
- 🚩The classic lowball bid. You’ve seen it before. A crazy low advertised offer to “get in the door” turns into pressure sales and a surprise “catastrophe” down the road.
- 🚩No line items. A bargain bid without specific line items leaves room for “oops” markups mid-repair your plumber conveniently forgot about.
- 🚩Cash-only bids. Look for a plumber who offers trustworthy financing options for your sewer service.
- 🚩Low quote, high down payment. The bid is cheap, but they want a 25%-50% upfront payment? They may never show up for work.
- 🚩15%+ lower than average range. Look for what services they aren’t including. Is there a video inspection? Are they using quality pipe materials? Based on what we’ve seen, there’s usually something missing.
Getting a Second Quote Is Worth the Delay

Common Q’s about Drainage Service
How much should a DFW sewer repair quote cost?
Your quote depends on the extent of damage, materials used and repair method (traditional vs trenchless). The average DFW sewer service estimate ranges from $7,400-$48,600. Spot repairs cost the least, full repipes cost the most. Trenchless options cost 10%-25% less than excavation. For full details, read our DFW sewer cost guide.
Is a written sewer repair estimate legally binding in Texas?
No, a written sewer repair estimate is not legally binding on its own in Texas. It only becomes legal when clear offer-and-acceptance language is added and both parties sign the contract. Look for terms like "fixed price" in the contract language before you sign.
Should I get a second opinion on my DFW plumbing bid?
It's always a good idea to compare quotes from multiple licensed plumbers. Get a second quote (even if the first one's from us!). Compare service terms, line item pricing and see which offer is the most transparent and complete. Look for specific information on pipe materials, repair methods, licensing, insurance and warranty.
How not to get ripped off by a plumber?
The best way to get a fair plumbing quote is to get multiple estimates. Compare prices, ask questions and be sure to get individual prices for line items like labor and materials. Also, never accept verbal estimates or bids over the phone. Always get a complete inspection and a written quote. Finally, verify your plumber's active license and insurance information with the state.
