Main water line leak between the city meter and the shut off valve at front of the house. Been leaking for a long while. Dug up area and found old Crest pipe leaking. Receive estimate to replace pipe from meter to front of house shut off. Jessie with Mother Modern came out this morning and checked the issue. We discussed possible repair options and he supplied estimate to pull new pex pipe at a reasonable cost with a 20 year warranty. He then prepped the end areas of the line replacement selected. James came by awhile later and pulled the new line (60+ feet) from the front of house to the meter area through the old Crest pipe. Julio and his assistant arrived after James updated him with pictures of end connections, for possible needed fittings/parts. New ball valves were installed on new line at the meter outlet to house and at the front of house cutoff. They then filled the hole that had been dug to access the original leak with the removed dirt. Thank you for that clean up procedure.

Common Indicators of a Failing Main Water Line

  • System-Wide Pressure Loss: If the water volume has dropped at every fixture in your house simultaneously, the bottleneck is likely located in the main service line between the meter and your foundation.
  • Chronic Discoloration: Red or orange tints in your water indicate that the internal zinc coating of your galvanized pipes has eroded, allowing raw steel to oxidize into your drinking water.
  • Wet Spots in the Yard: A damp area in your yard that remains wet during dry North Texas spells is evidence of a continuous underground breach.
  • Unexplained Meter Activity: If your water meter continues to move while every faucet in the house is shut off, your pressurized main line is losing water into the surrounding soil.
  • Hissing at the Foundation: You can hear the sound of pressurized water escaping if you listen near where the main line enters your home.

Richardson’s Water Lines: Decades of Stress

Richardson’s housing history defines the current state of its underground plumbing. During the expansion of the Telecom Corridor between 1950 and 1980, galvanized steel was the industry standard for water service lines. These pipes were engineered for a functional lifespan of roughly 40 to 50 years. That time is up.

In neighborhoods like Greenwood Hills, many original lines are now over 60 years old. They have reached a point where the pipe walls have thinned to a fraction of their original thickness.

The Houston Black clay beneath your property puts massive mechanical stress on these brittle lines. As the soil expands and contracts with the seasons, it pulls at the corroded threads until a breach occurs.

We provide a complete diagnostic of these materials and your property to help you plan a permanent replacement before a catastrophic failure occurs.

How Water Lines Fail In These Richardson Neighborhoods

  • Greenwood Hills: Many homes here feature original galvanized steel that is now decades past its expiration date. Complete replacements here eliminate the rust and pressure issues common in these established ranch homes.
  • Canyon Creek: These 70s-80s era properties often feature complex water line runs under mature landscaping. We prefer trenchless replacement methods here to install a new line without destroying your established trees or driveway.
  • Highland Terrace: As some of the oldest housing stock in the city, these lines often feature a combination of aged materials and non-standard connections. We provide the technical expertise to modernize these systems and restore full flow velocity to your fixtures.

Mother’s Commitment to Precise, Lasting Repairs

We know Richardson residents value evidence over guesswork. That’s why Mother approaches service differently- no high-pressure sales, no capitalizing on a tough situation. Just clear, data-driven diagnostics that reveal the best possible outcome.

We provide a technical briefing on your home’s infrastructure so you can make an informed decision based on data.

  • Advanced Line Location: We use electronic equipment to map the exact path of your water service line. This allows us to identify the most efficient route for a replacement, minimizing the impact on your property.
  • Expert Verification: Every water line project is overseen by a technical expert who ensures the new system meets the strict International Plumbing Code standards adopted by the City of Richardson.
  • Trenchless Pipe Bursting: When site conditions allow, we can pull a new, continuous pipe through your old one. This no-dig technology is ideal for Richardson homeowners- it protects your home’s curb appeal.
  • Material Integrity: We use high-grade PEX or Type K Copper. These materials are chosen for their ability to handle the specific mineral profile of Richardson’s water and the shifting nature of North Texas clay.
